How a century old violinist whose violin died at age 300 is honoured at a performance of the Serenade in Kolkata.
Dalalip Kumar, who had just completed a tour of the world, died on February 8 in Bengaluru.
His coffin was placed at the Dharamsala Municipal Hall on the eve of his birthday.
The performance was held on Friday.
His obituary said he died at just 26 years of age.
The composer of the Brahms composition “Ave Maria”, Dalip Kumar is known for his elegant and lyrical violin playing.
He was awarded the Bharat Ratna by the President of India in 2009.
He had also won a prize for his work with the Hindustani Ballet.
